Teen Reach Students Rally at Thompson Center

Students and staff from Metropolitan’s Teen Reach program showed their support for the program and for restoring cut funding at a rally held Wed., April 8 outside the Thompson Center in Chicago.

Teen Reach helps fund after-school programs at Metropolitan and other agencies throughout Chicago and Illinois. The funding has been vital in providing students with environments where they grow academically and socially, and stay safe from random violence.

Metropolitan was one of many organizations who attended to make their voices heard, responding to cuts made by Gov. Bruce Rauner announced and made effective April 3, which eliminated or drastically cut many human services programs throughout the state, including Teen Reach, which has been eliminated.

Our students carried signs at the rally emphasizing why Teen Reach and human services matter. Parent Child Educator (and former Youth Center Director) Jessica Oros accompanied the students and spoke with Telemundo television about the program’s importance.
