Spotlight on the Colbert family
Pria and Michele Colbert are two wonderful women who radiate resilience and strength. Pria is a freshman in high school who enjoys singing in the Chicago Children’s Choir, and Mrs. Colbert recently celebrated her 26th year of service in law enforcement.
They became active participants of our Calumet Center’s Adoption Support and Preservation Program (ASAP) in September of 2020. Despite the difficulties the year 2020 brought, Pria and Mrs. Colbert continue to progress toward their own goals while strengthening their mother-daughter relationship.
Pria and Mrs. Colbert have consistently participated in individual and family therapy. Their optimism and willingness to participate is a strength that has supported them throughout their journey.
Through ASAP services, Mrs. Colbert has strengthened her understanding and knowledge of how adoption, attachment, and trauma impacted Pria and shaped their relationship. Pria has strengthened her own understanding of adoption, while developing self-confidence and emotion regulation skills.
For 2021, Pria and Mrs. Colbert hope to dedicate more one on one time with each other as well continue to strengthen their communication skills.
