Founded in 1985 on the heels of local steel mill closings, Metropolitan Southeast Chicago is part of Metropolitan Family Services, which has been empowering Chicago-area families to reach their greatest potential and positively impact their communities since 1857.

Serving South Chicago, Calumet Heights, the East Side, Hegewisch, and South Deering communities.

  • Monday and Friday: 8:30 A.M. – 5:00 P.M.
  • Tuesday 8:30 A.M. – 7:00 P.M.
  • Wednesday: 8:30 A.M. – 8:00 P.M.
  • Thursday: 8:30 A.M. – 6:00 P.M.

Vanessa Schwartz

Vanessa Schwartz, Center Director of Metropolitan Family Services Southeast Chicago Center, has been with the agency since 1993. Vanessa holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Loyola University and a Master of Science Degree in Business Administration from National Louis University.

Vanessa started her career at Metropolitan as an intake worker for the Southeast Chicago Center. The majority of her career at Metropolitan has been in service of children and families. She has coordinated peer mentoring programs, financial literacy workshops and individual financial literacy counseling sessions for youth, adults and seniors.

Her work with youth has included being the 4th District YouthNet Director, Resource Coordinator for 4 small high schools in South Chicago, co-facilitating the LAN #87 workgroup, Supervisor of Teen REACH and now Program Manager for the agency’s Community School programs in addition to the agency’s Healthy Families home visiting program.
