Young Moms Get the Royal Treatment for Prom

WHAT & WHO:
25 young mothers participating in Metropolitan Family Services’ Mentors of Mothers (MOMS) program will get the royal treatment for prom – having their hair and makeup done and their photos taken in their prom dresses by a professional photographer – a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these moms donated by Digital Hot Shots.

Soloist Anita M. Wilson, featured in the song “Happy Being Me” and recorded by nationally known recording artist Donald Lawrence, also will make a special presentation.

This event follows another held recently at Metropolitan’s North Center where the moms got to pick their own prom dresses, shoes, and accessories, all of which were donated. Metropolitan staff members and volunteers helped the moms match their items, and a seamstress helped with sizing and alterations.

WHY:
Many young mothers miss prom and other special events because they do not have the proper attire. Many do not get the chance to dress up, have their hair and makeup done or even just “feel beautiful” – especially at no cost. Metropolitan Family Services has been working with moms in its Mentors of Mothers program throughout the year on topics such as self-esteem, as well as the various skills they need to be good moms and pursue their education.

WHEN:

11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
* Photos of moms: 1:30 p.m. – 2 p.m.
* Presentation by Anita M. Wilson: 2:30 p.m.
