Midway Learning & Wellness Center has a garden growing!
Children at our Midway Learning & Wellness Center are growing in more ways than ever – by helping with a new garden at the center!
Rakesha Battie, Education Coach at the Learning & Wellness Center, shares:
“The Learning and Wellness Center has a garden growing, and it’s coming along wonderfully! Thanks to the Urban Canopy Farmers Market, we were able to receive starter plants that consisted of dinosaur/curly leaf kale, swiss chard, lettuce, golden/black cherry tomatoes, squash plants and basil.
The preschool students had a great time learning how to properly transplant the starters into the dirt. Everyone down to our infant/toddler youth are having fun maintaining the plants by helping to water them every day!
The hope for the garden is to be able to start harvesting the vegetables in the upcoming weeks and use them in the classrooms for food experiences. We also hope to create a farmers market for our Learning and Wellness Center parents!”
