Sonny Thatch
Managing Attorney
Sonny Thatch serves as the Managing Attorney of the Communities Partnering for Peace (CP4P) Justice Corps of the Legal Aid Society (LAS). The CP4P Justice Corps supports the Metropolitan Peace Initiatives by providing community-based civil legal services in Chicago neighborhoods most impacted by gun violence. These services include but are not limited to criminal and cannabis expungement/sealing, landlord/tenant rights, immigration and human trafficking, and domestic relations.
Prior to this role, Sonny served as a Staff Attorney with the Safe Families Program (SFP). With SFP, Sonny represented victims of domestic violence in petitions to obtain orders of protection in conjunction with criminal charges when the parties have children in common. In addition to SFP, Sonny served as the attorney to the Gerst Family Young Fathers Program where he conducted community education and a legal clinic for Family Law and Criminal Expungement and Sealing. Prior to joining LAS, Sonny had a solo family and domestic violence practice.
Sonny received his Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University’s Moritz College of Law in 2011 and his Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from DePaul University in 2008.
