Metropolitan's Public Policy team advocates for legislative solutions to community-wide problems that low- and moderate-income families face – problems such as predatory lending, child support and youth violence. With input from staff members and community leaders we draft legislation, work with coalitions and lobby policymakers, focusing on the Illinois Legislature.
In 2010 the State of Illinois’ budget crisis, unprecedented in the state’s history, is dominating policy discussions. Metropolitan’s Board and staff members say that while reducing spending may be part of the solution, this crisis won’t be solved by eliminating the services that help people live independently, go to work and pay taxes.
